Jeremy Irons on the Power of Words
Jeremy Irons, one of the most lauded actors of his generation, spoke to us recently in London.
Thomas Crampton, Consulting Principal of Marketing Transformation of OgilvyRED and the head of Ogilvy’s Global Social practice, quizzed Mr. Irons about the words that have meant the most to him, how language should be used and what in his view defines great oratory.
He talked about his frustrations with the ‘screen generation’ and gave up some of his secrets for great speeches: clarity, truth, enthusiasm, colour and variation.
Jeremy was participating in the 15th anniversary event hosted by Intelligence Squared and sponsored by Ogilvy on ‘Words that Changed the World’. This showcased how great speeches have swayed the course of history and how we now need them more than ever to define our values and who we are.
